10 Things You Can Do while Walking

Walking is one of the best exercises to keep fit, reduce weight, alleviate blood pressure and, generally, keep yourself healthy. It is also one of the most accessible for all age groups and all kinds of people. No matter how busy we feel we are, we should always make some time to go for a walk on our own or with family. Mixing things up while walking, whether alone or with company, will let you have fun, learn and exercise, all together! Furthermore, walking does not require you to subscribe to any of the monthly or annual gym memberships. Do you really need any more reasons to love walking?

  1. Learn a new language

While walking provides a great exercise for your body and one of the best ways to refresh your mind, learning something new will surely exercise your brain well too. You can definitely utilize the time during your walks to learn a new language. You can download a number of podcasts or tutorials on your phone for beginners to advanced level of language learning. Practicing on your own during walks will also help you hone your language skills.

 

  1. Prepare yourself

You can catch up on some school, college or office work through mental reviews or listen to educational audios. For academic work, you can download informational audios, lecture audios on your phone or even listen to your own audio recordings of reading notes. You will find that your information retention will become stronger as your mind gets refreshed during and post walks and easily soaks up all the new information.

If you are anxious about any presentations or speeches that you have to make, you can also use this time to rehearse and practice them.

 

  1. Brainstorm

A walk also provides some free and personal time for yourself and you can use this time to brainstorm ideas and plan for the day or week or even work on any problems you may have. If you have figured out your objectives for the day or week, you will find reviewing them during each walk will make you more diligent and focused. The voice recorder on your phone will also help you record any ideas or reminders that pop up during the walk.

You can also use this time to plan simple tasks such as your meals for the week, grocery shopping and other such to-dos.

Walking is an excellent exercise for both you and your dog and what is better than to do it together! You don’t need to hire somebody to walk your dog when you can enjoy it with your dog on your own. It will also vastly improve your bond with your dog and, of course, your dog will be extremely happy to get some extra time with you.

If you go for your walks alone, it provides you a great opportunity to take the time out to reflect on your life, your goals, achievements, relations and purpose. You can use the time to meditate and focus or refocus your mind on goals that you wish to achieve. You can also use the time to pray and create positive energy to destress your mind.

No matter where you walk or which route you take, Abu Dhabi is sure to provide you magnificent views to capture perfect moments. Use this time to appreciate the beauty of your city whether you are walking along the Corniche Beach or in one of the many parks. You can take beautiful photos of nature during your walks. Although, we wouldn’t recommend doing that every time, as it disrupts the exercise.

Use this time to catch up with your family and friends over the phone. If you go on your walks with your family, it is a great time to communicate with each other and discuss events happening in each other’s life. Your walks also give you an opportunity to spend some quality time with your loved ones.
